General
Questions
Can
I get a demo?
Sure! You can download the demo from many
sites.
Where
can I get the game?
The game is available at most software
retail outlets and via the Infogrames
Store
All right, enough wih the nice-guy act, Scooter. What
makes TA different from other real-time strategy games?
TA's true 3D unit and terrain models
are the biggest difference. When a tank goes up a hill, it really tilts,
and you see it from different angles. When a unit fires a heavy gun, the
whole vehicle rocks. Turrets can move separately from the rest of
the vehicle, hatches can open and units unfold and change before
your eyes.
What
else is different?
This is not just one game -- Total Annihilation is a game
system that has grown and evolved over time. There are two
expansion packs and dozens of free downloadable units and maps that
expand your experience. Tired of our maps? Make your own with the TA Map & Mission Editor, also available as a free download.
I like it, I like it. Hey, I
have a suggestion for a new unit/scenario/map -- what do I do?
Please post your comments and suggestions
to the TA Forums, so you can receive feedback
from other fans right away.
What's
the Unit Viewer?
The Unit Viewer offers a sneak preview
of the units in TA -- you can see a large sample of units, check out their
animations and 3D graphics, and even deploy and fire their weapons systems.
However, the Unit Viewer does not contain every unit in the game, nor
does it show units released as free downloads after the release of the original game. You
can download the Unit Viewer right here.
Is
there any cool music?
Total Annihilation features its very own award-winning
score, recorded with a full symphony orchestra. What's more, the score
interacts with the game, changing style and pace to match the action
on the screen.
The
People
So, who are you guys?
The Total Annihilation development team
was composed of some of the industry's best game designers, programmers
and artists. The game was produced by Ron Gilbert, the founder of Cavedog
Entertainment.
Have
you guys done anything else?
But of course! Ron Gilbert is a multiple
award-winning developer and the designer of the LucasArts classics Maniac
Mansion and the Monkey Island series. Both games have won numerous awards
and were among PC Game's list of the "Most Influential Games of All
Time." In 1997, Computer Gaming World and GameSpot proclaimed Ron
Gilbert to be one of "the 15 most influential people in computer gaming
of all time."
Why
build TA?
We really liked real-time strategy games,
and decided that we wanted to take the experience to the next level. After
receiving truckloads of awards, we think we did pretty good!
Units,
units, units
What's
the deal with new units?
You can download
new units from the Total Annihilation Web site that can actually be
used in multiplayer games and single-player Skirmish
mode (what a concept!). However, the new units cannot be used with the Unit Viewer or with
the single-player missions.
What
types of units are available?
First of all, there are buildings
that allow you to build mobile units. Second, there are "construction
vehicles" for land, sea and air that allow you to build fortifications
and other larger buildings. Last, there are military units for the land,
sea and air.
I
need more units! Where can I get some more?
Not enough for ya', huh? There are many fans who have built their own units, maps and other utilities, and some are very well designed. However, for legal reasons, we cannot support or recommend any specific fan-created material. You're on your own, private!
Game
Editors
Is
there a unit editor?
Sorry, no there isn't. Our units are VERY complex and no
reasonable editor could be made that would be both inexpensive and easy to use.
Is
there a map or scenario editor?
You can download the Total Annihilation
Map & Mission Editor right here.
